“A unique and engaging voice…
emotionally sincere and honest…
When you’re an artist as passionate as Collins clearly is,
you probably have no choice but to let the world hear
everything you have to say.”
— VC Reporter

THE DEBUT ALBUM, ONE GIRL TOWN
is a testimony to the emotions that drive human relationships. Praised by FoxNews.com (yep, that’s right) as “lyrical, intense, intimate and relatable, a diary into Collins' mind that listeners may see as a mirror into their own lives” the genre-blending album has been embraced by both folk and rock radio programs. Creating a sonic experience of both intimacy and bravado, Licity’s sound is a refreshing unique experience that both cradles and challenges its listeners.
LICITY'S SPOKEN AND WRITTEN PROSE
is "another form of singing," creating an added layer of intimacy with her audience. Grief Out Loud celebrated the writing as "Totally moving. Extremely powerful." Both written and performed live, Licity lays bare the intimate and sometimes excruciating details of life to her audience, creating a genuine connection.
Humans are emotional creatures. It is our natural state to be open to possibility. It is our natural state to love. But we forget this, because we are so often afraid. People tell me I am "raw" and "fearless" because I remind them that it is safe to be open. I love offering people company, courage, and a witness along this complicated human journey.
My songs are rooted in folk music then layered with the sounds of classic rock. Folk music gives us a beautiful language to honestly examine our inner and outer dilemmas. It keeps us company. Rock gives us the grit we need to transform our lives. It gives us courage. My prose, written the style of a diary, lays bare the heart-wrenching rise and falls of our attempts to navigate the unknown. It bears witness. These music and literary traditions have been blood transfusions in my life—giving voice to what I did not know I was allowed to feel.
I believe we can be better than we are. I believe there is a path to this which involves a deep connection to our emotions. I know that folk and rock and writing can help us make that connection. My wish for humanity is that we rediscover our natural state—open to love and possibility.
Licity grew up in the cello section of the Washington DC Youth Orchestra and hears all music like a symphony. But when her cranky cello teacher got angry at her for not practicing, and yelled, “What do you want to play, saxophone?” she took up the saxophone. Singing has always given Licity a voice to express parts of her that could not be easily spoken. She performed choral music from first soprano to tenor in eight different languages recording her very first album with her fourth grade chorus, on which she also played a solo on the "sticks." Many years later, in the fall of 2012, music tapped her on the shoulder and said, “It’s time,” so she got a guitar. Her debut folk-meets-classic-rock album ONE GIRL TOWN was released in the spring of 2018. In the years between cello and guitar, Licity created installation, assemblage, and performance art. She co-founded and designed award-winning sets for a boundary-pushing consensus-based theatre company, and brought theatre as a tool of expression and healing to women in prison. After living in Washington DC, Providence, Chicago and Portland OR, Licity is currently based in the small quirky town of Ojai, California.
