UPDATE: Licity Collins has been named one of 14 artists selected for an Oregon Community Foundation “Creative Heights” grant. The $74,000 award is to complete and premiere her spoken-sung opera, One Death In Seven Doorways. The Sitka Center serves as the fiscal sponsor for this grant. Many of the performers on this album are featured collaborating composers and performers of that work and will be reuniting to bring the opera to fruition under this new funding.

About this Album:

Volume 1: EVOLUTION is a suite of new classical chamber music composed for the residency by Licity. Inspired by a personal experience in the forests of Oregon, Evolution ponders the changes in ourselves through the dialogue of trees, the exhilarating flow of water, the sweetness of walking in love, and even explores silence as permanently transformed by tinnitus.  

Volume 2: TRUST kicks off with an energetic instrumental collaboratively written by Licity, violinist Meghan Coil, and the entire ensemble. Followed by a handpicked few of Licity's deepest original songs arranged for this SynchroLicity Collective ensemble. This volume wraps up with a “lullaby that wakes you up," a rousing version of one of Licity's favorite traditional Scottish folk tunes featuring early music specialist, Laura Kuhlman on bagpipes.

 The original Album Art by Kim Kei was created in the Sitka Center print studio in real-time response to the music we were creating. 

Both collections explore intimacy, bonds, vulnerability, and expansion—much as these 8 musicians experienced in the natural environment surrounding Cascade Head, Oregon where they lived together, learned to trust each other, and made this work. Through combining the sounds of classical ensemble, early music, haunting percussion, ripping electric guitar solos, and more, SynchroLicity Collective delivers a combination of sounds that are truly new.
